Unit 1: Day 1

Unit 1: Day 1

Daily Objective: Area of squares, rectangles, triangles, trapezoids, parallelograms, circles, and polygons. Define point, line, plane, line segment, ray, angle, median, altitude and perpendicular.

Definition:
1. Area of a square: Length x Width
2. Area of a rectangle: Width x Height
3. Area of triangle: Base x Height divided by 2
4. Area of a trapezoid: Average width × Altitude
5. Area of a parallelogram: Base x Height
6. Area of a circle: A = 3.14 x radius squared
7. Area of polygon: A = Perimeter x apothem divided by 2

1. Point - A precise location or place on a plane. Usually represented by a dot.
2. Line - A geometrical object that is straight, infinitely long and infinitely thin.
3. Plane - A flat surface that is infinitely large and with zero thickness.
4. Line segment - A straight line which links two points without extending beyond them.
5. Ray - A portion of a line which starts at a point and goes off in a particular direction to
infinity.
6. Angle - A shape, formed by two lines or rays diverging from a common point (the vertex).
7. Median - The middle number in a sequence of numbers.
8. Altitude - The height of a given object.
9. Perpendicular - A line is perpendicular to another if it meets or crosses it at right angles (90°).

Pictures: In this picture, it shows that when you multiply the base x the height that it will equal the given area which is true.
