Unit 1: Day 2

Unit 1: Day 2

Daily Objective: Area from day 2 and introduce concept of scale (dilations)

Definition: The concept of scale is when you use 2 similar figures to find the area for one of them. This part of geometry and similar figures is tricky to explain so pictures will be one of the b forms to learn how to do them.

Pictures: See in this picture how one triangle has the measurements for both of its sides, as with the other similar triangle who is missing one of those angles. Since these figures are similar to one another, we can cross multiply and then divide to find the measure of the missing side or in other words, x.

3 question quiz:

#1. What would be the missing measurement for two similar triangles if one triangle had the measurements of 3e and 9, and the triangle with the missing side of 2 and x?

#2. What would be the missing measurement for two similar squares if one of the squares had the measurements of 4 and 8, and the other square with the missing measurement of 2 and x?

#3. What would be the missing measurement for two similar triangles if one triangle has the measurements of 10 and 14, and the other triangle with the missing measurement of 5 and x?

Answer Key to Quiz:

#1.

#2.

#3.
