Day 3

Unit 5: Day 3

Daily Objective: Students will define the y intercept in math as well as translate it to the real world meaning.

Definition: The y intercept is the ordinate of a point where a line or curve intersects the y-axis. This can be shown for marketing graphs and business stocks increasing or decreasing.

Pictures/Graphs: In this picture, it shows how on the y axis the intercept would be 2, thus, making the y intercept 2.

3 question quiz:

#1. What is the real world meaning of y intercept?

Answer #1: The real world meaning of y intercept is how much something might cost right then and there, not per month or daily.

#2. What is the meaning of y intercept in math?

Answer #2:The y coordinate of the point where a line intersects the y axis is the y intercept of that line.

#3. What would be the y intercept in this equation y = 4x + 9?

Answer #3: The y intercept in the equation y = 4x + 9 would be 9.
